I don't like road tolls. It reminds of ancient time when each kingdom had their road tolls. The 407 Hwy. has demonstrated how easy it is to gouge people. Paying road tolls would not mean the money goes towards public transit. Even the money collected for OHIP does not necessarily go towards health care. All taxes and fees collected by the government enters into a general fund.

Taxpayers in Canada already pay over 50% of their income towards taxes. That seems like more than enough to me.

Don't forget we are in this mess because government approved all the new subdivisions. Then they noticed afterward that there are not enough roads, transit, schools and police. Instead of making the taxpayer support the politicians perhaps they should be paying for all their blunders.

Kennedy didn't really criticize the NDP cap and trade plan probably because the format didn't give him enough time to. I think he felt that painting the NDP plan as something that would hurt the economy would be the most effective criticism given the time constraints.

“A consumption tax disproportionately impacts middle and lower-income people,” Nash said. “Our view is to put hard caps on the big polluters … and use the money to make green solutions available to the average person.

Is that the only answer Kennedy gave to the above? Of course, both a cap and trade and a carbon tax impacts middle and lower-income people. A hard cap and trade is estimated to impact them several times more because the overall cost of a hard cap and trade is significantly more than a carbon tax. I actually consider this the biggest flaw in the NDP plan, that it doesn't protect low income Canadians from the cap and trade. Even McCain recognizes the regressive nature of cap and trade and knows that low-income Americans need cash in hand to pay the increased costs. Did Kennedy not get into any of this?

People are realizing what good marijuana can do for this country. Personally I know many medical marijuana users that seek the relief it brings from their pains such as MS, AIDS, cancer, all things that are tremendously easier to go through everyday because of medical marijuana. Medical marijuana will one day be legal across the board because of the effect it has. Do some research here.a>

Correction: The article incorrectly listed Ontario Power Generation (OPG) as the body proposing high voltage power lines for the East York area. OPG, along with TransCanada Energy Ltd. are in partnership to operate the Portlands Energy Centre.

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is the body responsible for the power line proposal.

Thanks to John Earl for bringing this to my attention. The article has been corrected.

Mr. Stoukas;

In regards to the article - Peter Tabuns holds Toronto-Danforth - I'd like to point out that it is the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) and not Ontario Power Generation (OPG) this is calling for a high voltage kne in the Portlands area.

John Earl
Manager - Media Relations
Ontario Power Generation
